The Phantom of the Opera musical is largely based on the 1911 book titled "Le Fantome de L'Opera" by Gaston Leroux. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the operetta musical. Andrew Lloyd Webber officially announced that he was working on a sequel on February 16th 2007. The book was to be written by Ben Elton and lyrics written by Glen Slater. Andrew named the sequel The Phantom of Manhattan. The musical was adapted by the 1999 novel of the same name wrote by Frederick Forsyth.
