Monty Python and the Holy Grail was released in 1975. The film was so popular a comedic music was created in 2004. The musical is titled Monty Pythons Spamalot. It is similar to the films as both are a highly parody of the Arthurian Legend. The musical's book and lyrics were written by a member of the Monty Python team. The musical has been running since March 17th of 2005. The musical is directed by Mike Nichols. To date Monty Pythons Spamalot has won three Tony Awards. It was awards the Best Musical award for its 2004 2005 season. The tagline for the musical is "A new musical (lovingly) ripped off from the motion picture".
The show was nearly sold out during its official opening which took place on January 9th 2005. The musical went on a North American tour which ended in the spring of 2006. The cast included Michael Siberry playing King Arhut, Jeff Dumas as Patsy Mayor and Guard, and David Turner played Robin Guard and Bother Maynard. The tour netted Best New Musical of 2007 and two other Touring Broadway Awards.
