The musical is comprised completely of puppets, much like Sesame Street. The musical is absolutely hilarious and even more so for any fans of the original Sesame Street. Avenue Q is as much a satire of the Sesame Street as it is a musical. The songs are oftentimes catchy and fun to sing along with and oftentimes they'll make you laugh so hard you'll cry. The characters are all a spin on different Sesame Street characters such as a gay Bert parody.
Unlike its source material Avenue Q is not meant for children, instead it contains a lot of adult humor and in many ways it makes it unique and fun because it turns out to be a Sesame Street for adults. The original run in the US and Canada was widely accepted and praised. Now the original show returns for an international tour in 2008. A few of its outstanding awards are a Tony for best musical, Tony for best book of a musical and a Tony for best original score. When it's all said and done it's one of the most refreshing experiences to undergo as an adult.
