The team is known for the culture of excellence at play and this is evident with the number of great players they have produced including Gene Upshaw, Art Shell, Howie Long and George Blanda---all of whom have busts displayed in the Hall of Fame. The road to fame was however not hat easy with the Raiders as they struggled during their first three seasons until head coach and general manager Al Davis was brought to the team in 1963.
The Oakland Raiders, which is based in Oakland, California, are regularly playing
in the National Football League's American Football Conference. The team is a one-time champion of the AFL and they have three division titles. The team has accomplished a lot since joining the NFL in 1970 including three Super Bowls, 12 division titles and 13 players enshrined in the Football Hall of Fame.
The years between 1963 and 2002 were merry years for the Oakland Raiders who experienced losing only in seven seasons. Davis is attributed for initiating the team slogans "Commitment to Excellence", "Pride and Poise" and "Just Win, Baby". Davis became the franchise's managing partner after a brief term in 1966 as AFL Commissioner.
