Members of Athletic teams of the Ohio State University are named after the state tree so they are called the "Buckeyes". The University has won an NCAA national championship in football, basketball and baseball. The Ohio State Buckeyes football team regularly plays at the "Horseshoe" or the Ohio Stadium. It has won the 2003 Fiesta Bowl's College Football National Championship which was the seventh for the Ohio State.
Part of the Buckeyes' success can be attributed to coaches Woody Hayes and Jim Tressel who has led the team in winning three National titles. The Buckeyes boast of having six winners of the Heisman trophy including Troy Smith for 2006, Eddie George for 1995, Howard Cassady for 1955, Vic Janowicz for 1950, Les Horvath for 1944 and two-time winner Archie Griffin for 1974 and 1975. Ohio State has been ranked number one by the Daily Oklahoman for producing the country's running backs.
