Head coach Bill Snyder introduced the logo to Manhattan University's Athletics Department and with the help of Tom Bookwalter, one of the most prominent logos in the University Sporting world came to existence. The logo is prominently displayed on almost anything identified with the Kansas State Wildcats including their clothing, bottled water, flags, football helmet and even on vanity plates for cars.
The team has a very colourful history of nicknames. It used to be known as the "Aggies" but the nickname was changed to "Wildcats" in 1915 under coach John Bender. The changing of the guards from bender to new coach Z.G. Clevenger however also changed the team's nickname to the "Farmers" in 1917. The name "Wildcats" was however reused by coach Charles Bachman in 1920 and it has stuck since then.
The Kansas State Wildcats is represented by a human mascot named Willie the Wildcat who is annually selected by a panel. The mascot , who is present in all games, athletic activities and who attends state events as an ambassador, is actually a student wearing an oversized Wildcat head. Willie the Wildcat serves as an icon not only of the Kansas State Wildcat but also of the Kansas State University. The wildcats are known for their official color which is royal purple although they also complement this with white and silver. The Kansas State Wildcats is a regular participant of the Big 12 Conference and NCAA's Division 1-Football.
