Illinois Fighting Illini Football Tickets Information |
The Illini’s are famous both for their basketball and football team with each one outdoing the other every season. The Illini’s stint in football started when student Scott Williams of the University of Illinois trained a group of students on the proper ways of playing football. The University agreed to have the group represent the University in a football game versus the Illinois Wesleyan provided the boys finance themselves.
The first football team representing the University competed in Bloomington in 1890 with Williams playing multiple roles as team captain, quarterback and coach. The team lost its first football game but bagged the championship cup during the activities that weekend. The UI team lost several other games after that but emerged the Illinois Intercollegiate Football League champion after that.
