The Orlando Magic joined the NBA as part of a four-team, two-year expansion together with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The first two teams that earlier joined were the Miami Heat and the Charlotte. In its first season, the team won only 18 games, but with rookie Dennis Scott joining Nick Anderson and veteran point guard Scott Skiles in the 1990"“91 season, the team progressed tremendously with its win"“loss record to 31"“51. The magic in the Orlando team continued as they drafted that year's number one pick, the 7 foot 1 inch center Shaquille O'Neal. O'Neal joined the team's guard"“forward Nick Anderson, forward Dennis Scott and guard Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway that made it to the NBA Finals. O'Neal became the formidable force in the NBA, ranking among the league's top scorers in each of his four seasons with the team.
The 2006"“07 season was a big disappointment to Orlando Magic fans when they were booted out in the first round of the season. There was a big change in the line of the coaching staff during the off season.
