The Houston Rockets is based in Houston, Texas. The Rockets have earned their 22-game winning streak record, breaking their own franchise record of 15 games in a row and is the second longest winning streak in the NBA history.
The Rockets were originally located in San Diego back in 1967. The franchise moved to its current location in Houston and began selling NBA tickets to their regular season basketball home games. Their debut season set an NBA record for losses for compiling 15"“67 win"“loss record. The record entitled them to the first selection in the league's collegiate draft, with Elvin Hayes from the University of Houston. As a rookie Hayes led the league in scoring with an average of 28.4 points per game and helped the Rockets earn their first trip to the playoffs in 1969.
In 1981 and 1986, the Rockets reached the NBA finals. However, it lost to the Boston Celtics during the same years. In 1994, center Hakeem Olajuwon led his team to winning its first NBA title, becoming the first professional team from Houston to win a major sports championship. In 1995, with veteran guard Clyde Drexler, the Rockets won their second NBA championship. Other top centers have played for the franchise, including Elvin Hayes, Moses Malone, and Ralph Sampson.
Considered as the dark horse threat in the NBA Playoffs, can Tracy McGrady and the Rockets bring the championship back to Houston?
