|
Vicente Fernandez Gomez was born in February 1940 in Jalisco, Mexico. He was born to a very poor family and began working as a very young child to support himself. He had numerous jobs; waiter, dishwasher, shoeshine boy and in later years he helped his uncle run his restaurant where he was employed as cashier and manager. One of Gomez's first performances in Arandas, Jalisco at a festival he was booed by the audience; at which time he silently vowed to never sing again. But that did not last very long because when he turned twenty-one years old he won a Guadalajara singing contest. He was invited to join the "La Calandria Musical."
Vicente Fernandez relocated to Mexico City where he took up employment at the XEX radio station which was the number one radio station at that time. He was hired as a singer which allotted him to reach the large audience that he would need to be a successful singer. This was Fernandez's break that he was looking for he gained a lot of fame for himself. In 2005 Fernandez became known as the first Latin American singer to ever perform as a cartoon in a video which he later dedicated to his father a song "Al Mayor de los Fernandez."
