Trace Adkins used to work in an oil rig and he played the guitar only as a hobby. However, he started playing the instrument when he was just a child and he also joined his high school gospel band. He lost part of his finger as a result of a work accident but this did not deter him from playing the guitar until he moved to Nashville and embarked on a singing career. Capitol Records discovered him at a bar in Nashville sometime in 1996 when he was already 34 years old. This paved the way for the release of eight studio albums with a total of 19 singles making it to the top of the charts. Most of his albums successfully made it to the Charts but failed to make it big sales wise including his second album "Big Time" and "More". However, his 2001 album "Chrome" which was his fourth album, not only topped the charts at number 4 but it was also certified gold. Several albums also made it to the top of the charts including "The Rest of Mine" and "I'm Trying'". His greatest hits compilation "Comin on Strong which was released in 2003 was certified Platinum.
