Thomas Earl Petty better known as Tom Petty was born in Gainesville, Florida in October 1950. He became interested in rock and roll when he was eleven years old. He met the great rock and roll legend Elvis Presley. Tom Petty’s uncle was working in Ocala, Florida in 1961. He was working on the set of Elvis’s film “Follow That Dream.” He called Petty up and asked he wanted to watch the shoot. It was like a dream come true for Petty because Presley was his all time idol. Petty was trying to overcome an abusive relationship with his father who thought that verbal and physical abuse would change his wild ways.

Tom Petty is very artist he plays the guitar, harmonica, piano, drums, vocals, and bass guitar. Petty had worked with several small bands in his early years of a rock performer. Petty and some of his past band member joined to together and formed the band “Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.” Their debut album was released in November 1976 with the single “Breakdown” being released in 1977 and reached the number forty spot on the charts in 1978. Petty went solo in 1988, but rejoined the band in 1991.
