The Temptations are a Grammy winning vocal group that records for Motown Records. The group has been working for nearly five decades. They have experimented with many different music genres including R&B, doo-wop, disco, soul, funk, and adult contemporary music. The group formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1960. When formed, the group was called The Elgins. The group has always been composed of at least five African American male vocalists and dancers. Current members include Otis Williams, Terry Weeks, Joe Herndon, Ron Tyson, and Bruce Williamson. Many say that the group has been as influential to soul as the Beatles were to rock.
