The Stone Temple Pilots was formed in 1990, but only perfected their own sound after several bar gigs and several changes in name, and in the band members. At least three million copies of Core (their debut album which was released in 1992) were sold, proving their critics wrong. It spawned hits like "Sex Type Thing", "Creep" and "Plush". Like all the other bands, they also had to struggle with drug addiction, particularly in the case of lead singer Scott Weiland. Despite that struggle, the Stone Temple Pilots were able to come up with a greatest hits album in 2003. The other band members are Eric Kretz, and brothers Robert and Dean DeLeo.
Despite numerous hits including the platinum "Purple", and the gold "Shangri-la Dee Da", the band broke up in 2002 with the members joining different bands. But that's history and the Stone Temple Pilots are back in town.
