Both with roots in Mexico City, Mexico, they both started out by playing in the Tiera Acida, a thrash metal band and left for Europe to look for a more lively musical scene where they settled in Dublin, Ireland. Here they were able to play in pubs and bars and finally were discovered to play as an opening act for Oxegen. They did their first tour in 2005 around Europe. They have already come out with 6 albums called Foc, Live in Manchester and Dublin, re-Foc, Rodrigo y Gabriela which reached international fame, Live in Japan, and most recently an album called 11:11 who have special performances by Testament’s Alex Skolnick and Strunz and Farah.
Heavily influenced by Metallica, Overkill, Megadeth, Testament, and Slayer, Rodrigo and Gabriela were finally featured on MTV which sealed their popularity in the United States. They have had their taste of the Hollywood scene by playing the Oogie Boogie Song instrumental version of Tim Burton’s: Nightmare before Christmas on its Nightmare Revisited tribute album. They have opened for big name bands, like Muse and have had special performances in the 2009 Electric Picnic Festival.
