With three band members, Primus is one American rock band that has surely made waves internationally. Members of the band include Jay Lane (drummer) Larry LaLonde (guitarist), and Les Claypool (bassist and vocalist). Their irreverent view and approach to rock music has made them even more attractive to the more rebellious and discriminate sector of fans. Formed in the middle of the eighties, they started out by calling themselves Primate. This caused legal troubles, however, when another band surfaced that was already using the name before them, thus they named themselves Primus instead, which literally means chief in Latin. Their first album was entitled Frizzle Fry which they released in 1990 independently, but later they released their official debut album called Sailing the Seas of Cheese under a major label.
Primus’ music has been described as alternative rock, but with each release the genre can no longer be pinpointed. They have also been known to make thrash funk as well as psychedelic polka!
