Pink Martini is often called a small or little orchestra. The orchestra blends a wide variety of genres into one. These genres include Latin, lounge, classical, and jazz. Some would call their music "vintage music". Pink Martini was formed in Portland, Oregon in 1994. The orchestra released their debut album, Sympathique, with the label, Heinz Records, in 1997. More than one million records were sold worldwide. The group's success continued to soar. While they got their start playing political functions in Portland they made European debut at the Cannes Film Festival. To 2003, the group has toured many different countries including Spain, France, Portugal, Switzerland, Belgium, Monaco, Greece, Turkey, Peru, Lebanon, Taiwan, and the United States.
The orchestra currently consists of eleven members. Pink Martini released their second album, Hang on Little Tomato, in October of 2004. Many of the group's songs have appeared in many films including Josie and the Pussycats, Nurse Betty, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The band appeared on the TV music program, BBC Two Later with Jools Holland, in June First of 2007.
