Phil Vassar is the piano playing country music artist who hails from Lynchburg, Virginia. He debuted on the music industry in the 1990s as a co-writer for artists such as Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina, Collin Raye, and Alan Jackson. Because of this, he won the Country Songwriter of the Year given out by ASCAP. He became a full-fledged recording star later when Arista Nashville signed Phil up. In early 2000, his debut self titled album was released. Five tracks from the album became Billboard Country Singles Chart hits. The album became a gold record in the United States. His second album was released on 2002 and it was entitled “American Child”. A total of six albums were compiled in Phil’s name with the last one made in 2008 entitled “Prayer of a Common Man”.

Phil grew up and studied high school in Lynchburg where he was a star athlete. He played football and track and field. In James Madison University, he studied business administration with an athletic scholarship. He was doing odd jobs while in college, eventually playing the piano and working as a singer in clubs. With this new found love of music, Phil decided to move to Nashville to pursue a musical career. He is married to fellow song writer Julie Wood and has two daughters Presley and Haley.
