The New York Philharmonic was founded in 1842 it was based out of New York City. It is the third oldest orchestra in the world. The orchestra’s genre is classical. The first concert was on December 7, 1842 which took place in the Apollo Rooms on Broadway. The first concert opened up with “Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5” with an audience of six hundred fans. In 1846 the New York Philharmonic decided that they needed a new music hall. They organized the “Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9” concert that would raise the funds to build it. But the price of $2.00 a ticket turned the people of New York away so the orchestra decided to put the new music hall fund raiser on hold for a while.
The philharmonic has won numerous Grammy Awards for the Best Classical Album; 1965 Bernstein: Symphony No. 3 “Kaddish”, 1978 Concert of the Century, and 2005 Adams: On the Transmigration of Souls this is only to name a few. Also winning several Grammy Awards for Best Orchestral Performance in 1974 Bartok: Concerto for Orchestra, 1990 Mahler: Symphony No. 3 in D Minor, and 2005 Adams: On the Transmigration of Souls this is only to name a few.
