Based in London, this funny little band, headed by Marcus Mumford, and accompanied by Country Winston, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwayne, grouped together in 2007. They used to tour and support other indie folk acts such as Laura Marling, Johnny Flynn and Noah and the Whale. Eventually they would tour UK extensively as their popularity grew.
They signed to Island Records in UK in 2008 and released their astounding debut album. It was also released in Australia, New Zealand, and North America. Their lead single was "Little Lion Man." It soon became a favorite of UK disc jockeys. Some have even named it their favorite track of the year.
With so much radio play and positive reviews, they soon became more and more popular, while still maintaining their calm and simple demeanor. In 2009, they unassumingly accepted the Best Band Award in the 3rd Annual BalconyTV Music Video Awards in Dublin.
Internationally, they also gained much success. Their chipper and lively accompaniments are complemented with honest vocals that have an undertone of melancholy. Their lyrics talk about longing and ennui. They have established an image of truly being gentlemen on the Road.
