John Mellencamp used to be tagged as a clone of Bruce Springsteen way back in the 70s. However, he has managed to create his own brand of music which heralded his popularity. He finally made it in 1982 with hits like “Jack and Diane” and “Hurts So Good”. He was however taken seriously by his fellow artists and critics after the release of Scarecrow in 1985.
