|
Gladys Knight is known in the music industry as one of the greatest soul singers. Along with her brother and her cousins who formed the Pips, they made it to the Top of the Music Charts particularly “Every Beat of My Heart” which made it to the 1961 Music Charts Top 10. Like the other soul singers, Gladys Knight’s gospel influence was apparent in her singing style. Knight and the Pips made it through commercially and also to the Charts when they signed in with Motown. Among their hits are “Friendship Train”, "It Should Have Been Me” and “If I Were Your Woman”. Their single “I Feel A Song” made it to the Chart No. 1 in 1974. Things were going great for the group as they were given the chance to host their own television show in the United States in 1975. The 1976 film Pipeline, the soundtrack of which was recorded by the group, paved the way for Gladys Knight’s acting debut. They won a Grammy Award for the 1989 song “Love Overboard”. The group separated but Gladys Knight’s star continued to shine with her song James Bond song “License To Kill” making it to the UK Top 10 Music Charts.
