Florence and the Machine is the stage name for Florence Welch and her backup musicians. They perform alternative rock music while some authors refer to her sound as soul-inspired indie. They are a new band, their first album was released only on July this year. Florence is from London and is the daughter of a University Professor and a dad who works in advertising. The name of the group started out as a joke because she and her friend used to call themselves Florence Robot and Isabella Machine. When she started doing gigs, she found out that she had no name to call herself so she used “Florence Robot is a Machine”. The name got shortened to what it is now, and the machine refers to her band.
