Aubrey Drake Graham, who is better known as Drake, is an American rapper. He was born on October 24, 1986. Drake is the son of Dennis and Sandy Graham. The couple divorced when Drake was five years old, and he spent most of his childhood with his mother. He attended high school at Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, but dropped out before he graduated.
Drake began his acting career in 2001 when he landed a role on Degrassi playing a wheelchair bound basketball star. Drake began his rapping career in 2006 when he was still playing on Degrassi. His first mixtape entitled, Room for Improvement, was released the same year. When Drake left Degrassi in 2009, he decided that it was time to go full swing with his rap career. He released his first official single, The Best I Ever Had, in the beginning of 2009. The song became a huge hit and catapulted Drake into instant stardom. Drake's second official single, Successful, was released in the summer of 2009. Successful, which featured R&B singer, Trey Songz, was another hit.
Even though Drake has two very successful singles, he experienced some trouble releasing his first album, Thank Me Later. The album was originally intended to be released in the late 2009, but it was pushed back twice before it was released in the May of 2010. The album received both critical and commercial success. Thank Me Later has sold over 1.5 million copies in the United States alone.
Drake released his follow-up album, Take Care, in the November of 2011. It was another commercial and critical successful. Take Care featured the hit singles, Make Me Proud and Headlines. It surpassed Thank Me Later in sales selling over 1.7 million copies in the United States.
Drake won two Billboard music awards in 2009 for his single, Best I Ever Had. In 2010, he won a Juno award for New Artist of the Year. Drake has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards, but he has not won a Grammy Yet.
Drake is currently on tour with Waka Flocka Flame and J Cole. He has a concern in Noblesville, MI at the Klipsch Music Center on Friday, June 1, 2012. He will be in Tinley Park, Illinois the following day performing at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheter.
