Don Rickles started his career as a dedicated student of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Like most kids impressed by the glitter of stardom, he also dreamed of being on the silver screen. After serving during World War II, his dream became a reality with his first film, Run Silent Run Deep, which starred Clark Gable and was released in 1958. Rickles’ efforts were appreciated by the critics and his audience and this led to another film. His villainous performance in The Rat Race, which was released in 1960, received acclaim from the critics. He then started regularly appearing on television shows like The Thin Man and The Twilight Zone. He performed in many of Los Angeles and New York’s famous nightclubs and one thing was common: he had famous audiences who wanted him to throw punches at them.

Rickles started out being typecast as the typical character who is short, bald and with a slightly evil character in all of his film roles.
