Bill Cosby became the first African American to play a lead role in 1965 on the series ‘I Spy’ (1965-68). He later starred in ‘The Bill Cosby Show’ (1969-71), and ‘Fat Albert’ and ‘The Cosby Kids’ (1972-84). He earned his honorary MA and EdD degrees from the University of Massachusetts because of his interest in children and their education. In 1964, Bill Cosby married Camille and they have 5 children.
In the middle of the 1970s, Bill Cosby developed into a very believable and trustworthy spokesperson on TV. He represented many companies like Coca Cola, Jello Pudding, and Del Monte Foods. Bill Cosby was honored with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. Other awards he has received have included several honorary degrees. Some of the degrees are Doctor of Humane Letters from Carnegie Mellon University (2007), Doctor of Humane Letters from Yale University (2003), and Honorary Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and University of Cincinnati (2001. He has received Kennedy Center Honors in 1998, the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2002), and the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award (2003), among other awards throughout his life.
