The Allman Brothers Band was started in 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida. Duane and Gregg are the original Allman Brothers which performed in a band called the Escorts, later known as Allman Joys. Other members of the Allman Brothers Band include Dickey Betts, Jai Johanson, Berry Oakley, and Butch Trucks. Duane Allman the lead guitarist was born in 1946 and died in 1971 in a motorcycle fatality and Berry Oakley bass player was born in 1948 and died in 1972. Gregg Allman performs vocals while playing the organ and piano. Jai Johanson and Butch Trucks both play the drums.
